Description
This course will address the legal and ethical bases for informed consent doctrine. Attendees will learn how individual constitutional rights relate to health care decision making, and how those rights are protected in the Advance Health Care Directive Act. Attendees will also learn how the new law protects health care providers who provide care that is in accordance with patient wishes, under which circumstances providers may obtain consent for care from surrogate decision makers, and who should serve as surrogate. Finally, attendees will learn how surrogate decisions should be made.
