Description
Fast enough to get you somewhere, slow enough to let you truly appreciate the journey, bike touring is the perfect way to travel. In this class, we will talk about the two main options of using your bike for travel: the full tour, in which you carry camping and cooking gear in panniers or in a pull trailer; and the "credit card" tour, in which you carry clothes, water, and snacks, and eat and sleep in the towns you pass through. We'll discuss the pros and cons of each type of tour, as well as the bikes, racks, panniers, and other equipment best suited to each style. We will also cover how to load the bike for safety and comfort, contents of an on-the-road repair kit, and dealing with emergencies. Finally, we will talk about planning a route, flying with or shipping your bike, and how to pack a bike for air travel.
