Description
While the predominate arena of the Civil War was in the eastern United States, the conflict also had a profound impact in the western states and territories. Beginning with the withdrawal of Federal troops along the overland route, volunteer soldiers were sent to protect frontier settlements during a widening series of Indian wars. In the southwest, volunteer troops from California moved to block a Confederate advance west from Texas. Together we will explore this important part of history.
