Description
The remarkable artisitc legacy of the Middle Ages represents the collision of early Christianity, "Barbarian" culture, and the Roman Empire.Explore the political, social, and cultural implications of this fascinating period as we trace its roots from the illuminated manuscripts through Carolingian and Romanesque art, from classicism to the development of the Gothic style. We'll then go in-depth into Italian Gothic painting (as illustrated by the schools of Siena and Florence, as well as the works of Giotto), study the Florentine experience during the Gothic period, and lay the groundwork for the emergence of the Renaissance.
