Description
Meets with HIST 6270. this course examines the causes and consequences of early modern European imperialism. It addresses transformations both within and beyond Europe that facilitated and sustained imperial expansion, and it explores the dramatic social, cultural, political intellectual, and economic transformations that accompanied it. Major themes of the course include exploration and colonization, cross-cultural interaction and religious conversion, slavery and racism, gender and power, environmental change, technological transformation, and the creation and dissemination of a scientific worldview.
