Description
Have you ever said "But it doesn't look real" when viewing a piece of abstract art? Join us for an historic overview of modern art, spotlighting artists and masterworks that reflect art movements from the Impressionist period to works in the mid-twentieth century. Artists will include Turner, Cezanne, Picasso, Mondrian, Miro, Chagall , Matisse, and Pollock. We will discuss the unique goals and artistic problems addressed by artists who moved beyond photorealism. We will compare and contrast historic photographs with art produced by Utah artists. Understanding the backstories, the times, and the artistic motivation will help class members better appreciate the art they see in museums and galleries.
