Description
Explore the world of Jane Austen as we discuss the historical background and literary importance of her last two works, "Emma" and "Persuasion". Lectures will focus on issues mentioned in those books, as well as on the cultural history of the Regency Period. Topics will include the Napoleonic Wars, women in public and private life, the madness of King George, the parliamentary greats, caricature, sartorial trends, technological advances, the growing empire, and an introduction to the Victorian era.
