Description
Enhance your enjoyment of opera by becoming a more educated patron. Opera is rooted in history, but is also a dynamic, ever-changing genre. We will explore the major developments in 400 years of opera history, master terminology pertinent to the field and practice using it in listening, examine different interpretations of the same works, and learn about what goes on behind the scenes with sets, props, and costumes. The final class will be attending the evening piano dress rehearsal of Utah Opera's The Barber of Seville on Thursday, May 9, at a cost of $5 per person (payable to the instructor the first day of class, please bring exact change). Each student may purchase an additional guest ticket at the same price.
