Description
Spring is a time of very rapid change in the natural world at our latitude. Follow the resurgence of plant life in time and space on field trips to the local foothills and mountains, ranging from about 4200 to 6000 feet in elevation. We start with a visit to Stansbury Island, a little early-blooming oasis to the west. Learn key characteristics of the main groups of spring wildflowers and come to know many of our most common species. Descriptions of each week's locale and checklists of plants that are likely to be seen will be provided. In order to appreciate and protect these natural treasures you will be encouraged to keep records of what we see, including digital photographs, but discouraged from collecting plant materials. Be prepared for easy to moderate hikes and for variable weather - we often need to rearrange schedules. Trips will vary in length from 3-6 hours, according to destination. Transportation or carpooling is on your own. Should you arrange carpooling, bring cash to contribute toward gas.
