Description
This course reviews a succinct outline of the Chinese past and surveys the Chinese society during the market reform era starting from 1978 up to the present, focusing on social issues under the market reform and conditions of increasingly globalized economy, which have brought fundamental changes in the lives and opportunities of its citizens. China's transition to a market-oriented society has brought about fundamental changes in the lives of its citizens. We will discuss a range of topics related to the contemporary Chinese society including but not limited to regional economic disparities, rural-to-urban migration, population, culture, and other social, political and economic issues.
