Prerequisites: (NUCL 3000 OR NUCL 5030) AND (NUCL 3100 OR NUCL 5031).
Description
Students will have nuclear reactor hands-on experience and be able to learn important and crucial aspects of nuclear engineering and science practical applications. The set of five laboratory experiments will help students understand the vast use of neutron activation analysis, meaning of thermal neutron flux in a reactor and the techniques that are used to determine the profile of thermal flux, and the calculation of gamma dose around the reactor. Students will develop the habit and knowledge of how to protect themselves from radiation, what are the dosimeters and how to read the dose from dosimeters. Grad version of the course: Different assignments such as higher level homework problem, quizzes and midterm questions; additional reading.
