Description
This course provides a structured learning opportunity to explore, understand and articulate potential roles and role components of advanced practice clinical nurses and advanced practice nurse leaders. Specific role components are explored including: direct-care provider, clinical and health care systems consultant, health care administrator or executive, educator, researcher/scholar, program evaluator, policy maker, change agent, and mentor. Students will have the opportunity to examine their own philosophy of nursing and personal interaction style, and explore how to effectively integrate these in their advanced roles. This course introduces theoretical, legal, social, and political contexts for both practice and system roles. Practical skills for effective group membership and leadership[ functioning in the intra- and inter-disciplinary environment are examined. The initial components of a professional portfolio are also presented.
