Description
Find out why the symphony, a musical composition developed in the middle of the 18th century, became the standard composition and repertoire for the "symphony orchestra" through the early 20th century. We will listen to samples from Bach's sons, Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Schumann, Mendelssohn, Tchaikovsky, Brahms, Bruckner, Mahler, and others. We will explore and listen for the design, form, and influences that have made the symphony such a successful art form.
