Description
The foothills of the Salt Lake Valley are one of the many assets that make living in the region such a delight. Deepen your appreciation of our local landscape by observing different ecological communities on short hikes at low-mid elevations. We will identify flowers, grasses, trees, animals, and animal signs. We will discuss the interrelationships between the living world and the soils, geology, and weather, with a bit of human history thrown in. We will hike moderate terrain, between 1 and 2 miles round-trip. We will meet at the U and at the students' option carpool or caravan to nearby trailheads. Bring sturdy shoes, water, extra clothes for the weather, binoculars, a snack to share (we'll stop to enjoy it mid-way), and any other special gear you require. You may also want to bring a camera, bird book and wildflower book.
