Description
Travel into the past of Latin American civilization from the time Europeans arrived in the fifteenth century to political independence in the 1820s. It concentrates on the meeting of three groups in colonial Latin America: Europeans, Africans, and Native Americans. In addition to the history of the imposition of European institutions and culture on subject populations, we will examine broad social and economic patterns and the Latin American cultures that emerged over roughly three centuries of colonial rule.
