HEBR 3800 - Sex and the Bible

This course is about sex and interpretation, focusing on how ancient authors in the Hebrew Bible and the New Testament understood human sexuality. The course will primarily pursue a historical critical approach to this topic. Historical in the sense that it will explore the issue of texts discussing human sexuality in their original historical context, and critical, meaning identifying authorial intent independent of any contemporary theological lens. As a secondary exploration, this course considers how Christians and Jews have historically interpreted the Bible around the subject of human sexuality.
