Description
Scientists seek to understand many "hidden worlds", ranging in spatial scale from dust particles to whole galaxies. Prominent University of Utah researchers will share what their microscopes, field notebooks, and telescopes have revealed to expand what we know about those parts of our world that are not apparent to our unaided eyes. Join us as we explore a different topic each week. Class topics include Cone Snail Venom: Applications in Medicine and Science, Mathematics of Planet Surface Shapes, The Highest Energy Particles: a Utah Adventure for the 21st Century, Dating the Earth's Surface: Measuring the Earth's Cosmic Ray Exposure, Predicting Great Salt Lake Effect Snow Using Numerical Weather Prediction, and Telomere Roles and Implications for Aging and Cancer.
