It first teaches the basic topics, including on-line and offline content, user interface, crawling, indexing, retrieval, text mining, digital libraries, and evaluation methods. It then continues with advanced research topics in biomedical information retrieval. The course will teach how to install and use Nutch, an open source search engine built on top of Lucene. The course will also give a live demo on how to use various biomedical literature databases to conduct literature search.
