Description
Meets with CH EN 5307. In Green Engineering, we look at product design and production, and process operation with the twin objectives of reducing pollution along the design-production pathway and of minimizing the risk to human health and the environment. The course introduces students to the concepts of a priori assessment of the environmental impacts of a product on air, water and soil based on its chemical structure. Principles of performing environmental audits on flow sheets with the intent of pollution prevention will be taught along with life-cycle analysis. The course highlights choices that we face as we try to meet competing priorities. Graduate students will have additional assignments as part of the class.
