Description
This course is a survey of postcolonial theory in which we will explore foundational works, key developments in the area, challenges & critiques of postcolonialism, and its extension into education broadly. Specifically, we will conceptualize postcolonial theory as a continuation of anti-colonial struggles, situated within the struggle against Western colonization, critiques of Western culture, and Western thinking an philosophy. Specifically in the context of education and your coursework specifically we will be guided by the following questions: Broadly, what insights can postcolonial theories lend to educational research and practice; How may colonial-postcolonial discourse fit into American nationalist and multicultural curricula; and if this is your only colonial-postcolonial course, how may it serve you scholarly.
