New research is revealing a scientific basis for many of the age-old claims of yoga, including a promise to extend health and vitality through the full span of life. This class explores the scientific evidence in a way that can motivate you to begin a yoga practice or increase your dedication and depth in your current yoga practice. The theoretical component will be complemented by lab demonstrations and mild explorations into yoga practices devised by yogic physical therapists. After the first overview lecture, we will delve into the science of supportive practices for the musculo-skeletal system, the circulatory system, endocrine control, the respiratory system, and the nervous system.
