Description
This course is intended to assist secondary content area pre-service teachers in helping their students learn discipline-specific content through instruction in reading and writing. In short, the course helps pre-service secondary teachers teach their students to "read and write to learn." The methods used involve teaching students to become strategic readers who self-regulate their learning of the content and strategic writers who use writing to help them learn discipline-specific content. The course specifically focuses on disciplinary literacy within the framework of the Utah Standards based on the Common Core State Standards.
