Description
This course uses Benjamin Franklin's experiences and writings as a vehicle for exploring the cultural, social, and political history of the 18th century Anglo-Atlantic world. Through extensive readings in Franklin's writings, other 18thc texts, and modern scholarship, students will gain a deeper appreciation for the transatlantic contexts that shaped Franklin's life and character. This course is writing-intensive. Students will work with the Rare Books Division and the Book Arts Program of Special collections, which charge a $10 per student materials fee.
