Description
The students in this course will read and discuss a variety of dramatic literature and critical theory by and about African American artists and theorists, paying close attention to our gendered, historical, and social context. Through the study of these works, the class aims to open a dialogue (both oral and written) about how race and gender are perceived from an African American cultural context. As this is a theatre class, students will also examine the plays as performance texts to understand how race and gender are constructed by live bodies on stage.
