Description
The hospital can be an intimidating place, and it is crucial to know how to be an advocate for yourself and your family members before, during and after hospitalization. In this relaxed setting, we will discuss the tools and strategies you need for communicating your values and beliefs to your healthcare providers, and will address questions such as: How can I prepare for a hospital visit? How do I speak up if I feel that something isn't right? How can I plan ahead if something happens and I am unable to speak for myself? Participants will be provided with the materials necessary to empower themselves to create an advance directive, come away with the knowledge they need to select a healthcare proxy, and understand the potential impact of their choices. This course is taught by an operating room nurse with a master's degree in education.
