Description
This course is an introduction to representation theory of topological groups. it is meant for second or third year PhD students who have completed their preliminary exams in Analysis and Algebra, and does not assume knowledge of Lie group theory. This course extends ideas from the representation theory of finite groups to the setting of topological groups. The main topic of the study is the representation theory of compact groups, in particular compact matrix groups.
