Description
Students are introduced to the concept of substance dependence as a self-medication phenomenon. Models of healthy psychosocial development are presented along with theories of developmental deviations leading to disorders of the self. Students are also introduced to the DSM IV system of psychiatric diagnosis and to the concept of dual diagnosis. Throughout the course, emphasis is placed on comprehensive, individualized assessment and intervention.
