Description
This course focuses on understanding the fundamental issues and decisions in planning and controlling production systems. While the emphasis is on manufacturing production, many of the general concepts can also be applied to the production of services. We will look in greater depth than in previous courses at topics such as demand forecasting, capacity planning, production planning, and inventory management. Specific production planning and control techniques covered include Lean operations, just in time (JIT), theory of constraints (TOC), CONWIP, and material requirements planning (MRP). We will also consider the role of information systems in integrating these concepts together to create an integrated production system, considering more recent advances.
