Description
This course explores American and international fictional/biographical narratives/poems in the light of the question, "Which theoretical models of gender and sexuality and/or which narrative structures underlie our perception that a particular character is male, female, gay, lesbian, straight, or otherwise located on the sex/gender spectrum?" The course introduces critical tools for the study of novelistic or other narrative structures, including a historical overview of the representation of gender; sexuality theories; and semiotic and narratological theories of signification.
