Description
The 4-week Introduction to Personalized Medicine course is intended to provide brief overviews to several topics that will be expanded on in greater depth in later courses within the Personalized Medicine certificate program. These include an introduction to the wide scope of what’s called Personalized or Precision Medicine, Direct-to-Consumer (DTC) Genetic testing products, how to interpret clinical genetic test reports, familiarity with bioinformatics tools used to interpret genomic data, and awareness of the ethical, legal, and social issues (ELSI) and the role of genetic counselors in the clinical practice of personalized medicine. Students will participate in four two-hour sessions that will include didactic and small group interactive learning.
