This class will feature short hikes in several of the local canyons. The pace will be slow enough to enjoy the environment, view any wildlife that may be encountered, and socialize with other participants. The following hikes are planned: Silver Lake Loop (Big Cottonwood), 0.9 mi., 40 ft. elevation gain; Cecret Lake (Little Cottonwood), 1.7 mi., 473 ft. elevation gain; Willow Lake (Big Cottonwood), 1.4 mi., 586 ft. elevation gain; Alexander Springs (Parley's), 2.0 mi., 600 ft. elevation gain; Lower Bell's Canyon Reservoir Loop, 1.8 mi., 636 ft. elevation gain; and Pipeline Trail to SLC Overlook (Millcreek), 3.3 mi., 707 ft. elevation gain. Sturdy walking or hiking shoes are recommended, and trekking poles may be helpful. Bring lunch (or a snack), water, a warm jacket or sweater, and rain gear. No dogs allowed. Students will meet at the Holladay Park & Ride, 6200 S., Wasatch Blvd. and carpool to trail-heads.
