Description
One of our country's most beloved poets, Langston Hughes, lived during an exciting time in American history. The class will trace his poetry from the earliest poems he wrote when just a teenager to those he produced in the turbulent 1960s. We will also look at his personal history and the events that shaped his life, including the Harlem Renaissance (from the end of World War I to the mid-1930s). This period of artistic achievement has had a profound impact on writers since.
