Description
The goal of this course is to lay the foundation for and to create the context in which students can become critically conscious, reflexive and ethical practitioners in a multicultural world. Students are introduced to models of ethical practice as well as ethical dilemmas that arise in complex practice environments. Multi-cultural competence is defined as a process of ongoing self education, and the development of deeper awareness and humility. In this course, students will be introduced to the multi-faceted sociopolitical, economic, historical, and institutional processes that have shaped and continue to influence the ways in which race, religion, culture, gender, class, and sexualities (both individually and intersectionally) influence the distribution of power and the content of discourse in the United States.
