PRTS 2008 - 001 Avalanche-Level 2


Attendance at first class meeting is mandatory. Drops not possible after the 2nd day following this meeting. Class meets Wednesday, Jan 23 and Monday, February 4 from 6 pm to 9 pm. Field sessions Fri-Sun Feb 1-3. Day sessions only, no camping required. Students must be capable to travel in variable snow conditions in steep terrain with backcountry skis/skins,snowboard/splitboard, or snowshoes. Class will focus on snowpack, analysis of stability, decision making, snowpack metamorphosis (change), terrain features, safe travel, human factors and rescue scenarios. Students must have completed PRTS 2007 (“Avalanche 1”) prior to Fall 2018 in order to enroll in this course.
