Description
This course will continue the introduction to the SOM Health Promotion and Integrative Health track. It is designed to be taken in the spring of the first year of medical school. Broken in to four domains, each section builds on the others to take a student from knowledge to application, starting with themselves, then with patients and lastly within the community. The Science of Health domain serves as the foundation by providing background science, skills to identify the best evidence, and an overview of lifestyle medicine and integrative therapies. The Provider Wellness domain introduces students to themes of self-care, resilience, and modeling health behaviors. The Patient Engagement domain provides students with skills to work with their patients and communities to improve health behaviors and outcomes. The Teams and Communities domain expands the focus on health, wellness and prevention to interprofessional teams, health systems, local communities and populations.
