Description
Forensic science is the application of a broad spectrum of disciplines to investigate and assist the trier of fact in criminal or civil law. We will start with an overview of the field and learn about the capabilities of the Utah Bureau of Forensic Services (a.k.a. the State Crime Lab), review the history of fingerprints and fingerprint processing techniques, explore history and topics in Questioned Document Examination, and study the tools and techniques in biological evidence (e.g. DNA). Osher members will walk through a mock crime scene and discuss any probative evidence and how to collect it. The course will be a balance of lecture and hands-on experience, culminating with a visit to the State Crime Lab.
