Description
This course will provide an in-depth exploration of US girls' lives with particular attention given to the ways that girls' lives are shaped by their gender, race, class, sexuality, and abilities. We will learn about girls' socialization, psychological development, education, and political and social activism through course readings and from girls themselves. This course includes a substantial community engaged learning component for which students will facilitate group discussions with girls in the UofU Women's Resource Center Go Girlz program. With the girls we will critically examine and work to thoughtfully respond to inequities, challenges, and opportunities that girls face in their daily lives.
