Description
Taking a lung full of air and pushing it out in a song is an act of survival. Decades before technology drowned listeners in recorded music, families and friends gathered around a piano in the parlor to sing with each other. This class is an invitation to re-learn the fun of informal singing as Osher members raise their voices around the Steinway piano at the Monson Center. Osher instructor Wayne Egan, a long-time local pianist, has compiled a playlist including Broadway standards, country tunes, folk songs, and old favorites--songs performed by the likes of Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Ella Fitzgerald, the Beatles, Hank Williams, John Denver, Patsy Cline, Johnny Cash, et al. Egan will lead members in a sing-along while pointing out interesting features of the songs. Members may sing along with the piano or may simply listen and enjoy the music. The lyrics will be projected onto a large screen.
