Description
This course will focus on the United States' military conflict with the western Indian tribes (Lakota, Arapaho, and Cheyenne) from the time of the Fort Laramie Treaty of 1851 through the Wounded Knee battle of 1890. Topics for presentation will include small- and large-scale battles ranging from northern Oklahoma and southern Colorado to southern Montana, major Indian leaders and prominent US Army commanders, important locations such as the Black Hills, and significant military posts.
