Description
The student works on the Psychiatry Consult/Liaison Service at the University Hospital. The student will evaluate and follow patients on Medicine, Surgery, Rehabilitation, Neurology, Huntsman Cancer Hospital wards, Intensive Care and Burn units under the supervision of the faculty attending psychiatrist. Course objectives are to develop expertise in: (1) Psychiatric diagnosis using DSM-5 criteria, (2) The use of psychotropic medications in physically ill patients, (3) Psychological support of medically ill psychiatric patients and psychologically impaired medical-surgical patients, (4) Understanding of the legal and ethical issues involved in medical care (i.e., competence, autonomy, substituted judgment, etc.
