Description
The first semester of a two-semester course in quantum and statistical mechanics. Topics include wave functions and operators, Schrodinger equation; mathematical formalism of quantum mechanics, eigenvalues and eigenfunctions, Hilbert space, observables and Hermitian operators, Dirac bra and ket notation; hydrogen atom, Laguerre polynomials, spherical harmonics, orbital angular momentum; spin, Pauli spin matrices, Larmor precession, Zeeman effect; time-independent perturbation theory.
