This hands-on writing class will focus on issues of race and ethnicity in creative writing. Students will read and discuss a range of ethnic American creative texts such as plays, poems, short stories, personal narratives and performance art, examining how racial and ethnic identities are constructed and expressed in diverse contexts. Of primary importance to this course, students will write their own creative texts and share their work for peer discussion. A special theme of urban and natural landscapes will be supported by guest artist engagement with the indigenous theatre collective, All My Relations.
