Description
This course comprises the first semester of a two-semester sequence, designed to examine human movement as a vital identifier of culture throughout history (focus on pre-20th Century). The course lays the groundwork to critically examine dance and movement histories. Varied forms are examined in a non-hierarchical and intersectional way to study how dance and ritual are used for political resistance, storytelling, investigation, and shaping and maintaining cultural identity in the past and present.
