Description
Principles of operation, mathematical models, and control techniques for electric motors. Types of motors include brush DC motors, stepper motors, synchronous motors, induction motors, and brushless DC motors. Topics covered: steady-state and dynamic characteristics, torque limits and field weakening operation, characteristics under voltage and current sources, open-loop and closed-loop control of position and velocity, and field-oriented operation for AC motors. Graduate students only. Extra work.
