Description
The written word is a powerful tool in changing the world. This course will explore six classic books that did just that: "Uncle Tom's Cabin" by Harriet Beecher Stowe; "The Communist Manifesto" by Karl Marx ; "The Rights of Man" by Thomas Paine; "The Jungle" by Upton Sinclair; "Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee" by Dee Brown; and "Oliver Twist" by Charles Dickens. We will also look at how concepts raised in each book affect our current world. For example, "Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee" challenged how we look at history, and aren't we doing this today?
