Description
Meditation has been found to have many benefits which are confirmed by current scientific research. Now, more than ever, when faced with the challenges of a global pandemic and many other difficult conditions, a meditation practice can keep us grounded, calm, and more compassionate. In Buddhism, there are many different types, and, in this class, we will look at a variety of methods. Then, we will practice shamatha (calm abiding), a type of meditation that can reduce stress, trauma, and worry, and increase health, resilience, and stable concentration. We will also look at the fundamental principles that support a successful meditation practice "on the cushion" as well as in our daily activities. You are welcome to bring a cushion if you like, but it is not required.
