Description
The Great Salt Lake is the largest saltwater lake in the western hemisphere and is also the largest body of water between the Great Lakes and the Pacific Ocean. It is large enough to create its own weather patterns and can be seen from space! Its ecosystem is one of the harshest environments in the world, and the lake is one of the few places on Earth where you will find oolitic sand. The Great Salt Lake and its surrounding wetlands are critical to more than 250 different species of birds. Historical places of interest to explore include the Saltair Resort and the Fielding Garr Ranch on Antelope Island, and there are unique earthworks like Robert Smithson's Spiral Jetty. In this course, you will learn what differentiates the four main regions of the Great Salt Lake and where to visit, as well as a variety of activities you can experience when going to this distinctive place.
