Description
We read about dissents when the Supreme Court of the United States makes a controversial decision. We hear soundbites about justices using phrases like "argle-bargle" (Justice Scalia) or "throwing away your umbrella in a rainstorm because you are not getting wet" (Justice Ginsburg), but because dissents have little legal holding, we do not give them much weight. This course will detail the history of dissent in the Supreme Court of the United States and discuss dissent's place in history and the future. Join via Zoom to learn more about what dissenting justices achieve in their dissents.
