OSHER 579 - Introduction to Chess

Welcome to the royal game! This introductory course will teach the rules of chess, fundamental checkmate ideas, and basic strategies regarding openings and middle-game. In each session, we will first discuss some of these concepts and then work in pairs to practice and learn how to apply them in our games. The second part of the session will be mainly playtime, where you get a chance to play actual games with other students in the class and have some fun. In Blaise Pascal's words, "Chess is the gymnasium of the mind." So be ready to have a good mental workout!
