Description
This course emphasizes microeconomic and macroeconomic aspects of Multinational Enterprises (MNEs). The course builds on real-world examples, and in this context addresses government and public policies in home and host countries. From a microeconomic perspective, it covers MNEs’ business objectives, market conditions, and decision making under market structures of monopoly, monopolistic competition, and oligopoly, and also aspect of international trade theory. From a macroeconomic perspective, the topics covered include theories and factors behind foreign direct investment (FDI) and its pros and cons with respect to home and host countries, including its effect on income distribution. Graduate students should register for ECON 6520 and will be held to higher standards and/or additional work.
